DESCRIPTION:The Kamra tal-Periti would like to invite you to a seminar on Wood Science. This seminar will be delivered by Mr. Michael Formosa. \nThe Topics covered include: \n\nIntroduction to wood science\nBasic wood properties\nThe properties of a  wooden beam\nProblematic beams\nInspection\nTesting\nRecommendations\nTreatments\nIntroduction to wooden ceilings\n\n  \nAmple time will be dedicated to a discussion. \nThis event is scheduled to be held on Thursday 2nd November between 17.30 and 19.30hrs at the Professional Centre\, 127\, Sliema Road\, Gzira. Refreshments will be served. The working languages will be Maltese and English. \n  \nReservation is essential and assigned on a first-come first-served basis.  \nParticipation is free of charge for paid members and students. A fee of €10 is applicable for non-paid members who pay and register in advance\, or €15 at the door. \n  \n  \nMichael Formosa is an ex-Heritage Malta employee. Following his diploma by the City and Guilds of London Institute as a master craftsman in carpentry and joinery\, he obtained his bachelor degree as a paintings conservator from the University of Malta in 2003. His specialization was focused on the conservation and preservation of the wooden support of panel paintings. He then followed a Masters degree in 2007 specialising in wood and furniture conservation by the University of Malta. Michael has a keen interest in wood science and followed a postgraduate course in wood science organized by Heritage Malta and the University of Florence DISTAF. Michael has also lectured various undergraduate students.  He currently runs a small private laboratory where he carries out various analysis on wood\, mainly microscopic wood identification\, environmental monitoring and dendrochronology. He also carries out tests on paint layers. Michael specializes in the structural works on panel paintings\, and also conservation of furniture.
