SUMMARY:A Modern Building & Construction Regulation Framework for Malta
DESCRIPTION:The Kamra tal-Periti has been calling for the consolidation of building and construction regulation for well over a decade. The Kamra’s concerns increased as interest in high-rise developments surged and the heavy fragmentation\, obsolescence and gaps in regulation persisted. In the aftermath of the disaster that befell Grenfell Tower and its residents\, the Kamra decided to no longer await Government initiative on this life or death matter\, and set up a working group to review the current building and construction regulations\, and propose a comprehensive reform of the industry to meet modern requirements and standards. \nIn the past twelve months\, the Kamra’s Building Regulation Working Group has formulated a detailed position paper outlining a comprehensive reform proposal. The proposals set out in the document are expected to significantly improve the situation for all industry stakeholders\, by facilitating their respective roles and identify clear lines of responsibility. Property investors will also have greater piece of mind about the quality of the buildings they are buying and living in. \nGovernment has meanwhile heeded the Kamra’s repeated calls for the consolidation of building and construction regulation and issued a White Paper for the setting up of a Building & Construction Authority. \nThe Council of the Kamra tal-Periti is calling this EGM to outline the proposals it intends putting forward to Government. Since these changes have a direct and material impact on daily working lives of all Periti\, we encourage as many members of the profession as possible to attend and participate in the discussion. \nMore information will be provided closer to the event. \nRegistration is free of charge.
