The Architects’ Council of Europe (ACE) expressed its deepest sympathy for the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire in London, in a statement released today, and deplored this disaster which could almost certainly have been avoided. “This incident underlines the huge responsibility architects – and all professionals involved in the building industry – have to society” says Luciano Lazzari, ACE President.

With an investigation underway, ACE said that they certainly cannot comment on the causes, adding that “We can say that the specification of materials and their application does fall directly under our remit and we therefore urge our members to be extremely careful in their choices, mindful of the great impact our specifications may have on the safety and well being of our citizens”.

The Kamra tal-Periti wholly endorses this statement.
