Hiring a Car

How to get around Valletta
The best way to enjoy your trip to Valletta is on foot since everything is conveniently located within walking distance. However, if you prefer to make use of alternative transport, the following are available:
- City Electric Cabs offer a quick trip service using small electrically-driven vehicles that can take you all across the city. Trips can be booked by phone (with min. 15 minutes’ notice) on +356 77 414 177 or hailed from the street. The service operates from 7 am to 7 pm from Monday – Saturday and 9 am to 4 pm on Sundays. Trips are priced as follows:
- €1 for trips in the centre for the first passenger and €0.50 for additional passengers
- €2 for trips to/from parts outside the city centre for the first passenger
- There is a bus route that passes through some of the main streets inside and just outside Valletta. A single journey ticket is valid for two hours and costs €2 or €1.50 (winter/summer season).
- Public Transport Malta has now also made available e-bikes which can be used to get around inside the city, called Tallinja Bike. There are a few docking stations around in Valletta and the fairs are:
- Standard fair: €3 (for up to 30 minutes), then €2 for every 30 mins after
- Discounted rate of €1.50 + €2 every 30 mins after for Explore cardholders
- Free for the first 30 mins for Valletta cardholders (+ €2 every 30 mins after)
Extending your stay in Malta
Should you wish to enjoy the Island you can travel from Valletta by boat on three types of ferries:
- Valletta Ferries offer two routes, leaving at the seafront of Sliema (across Marsamxett Harbour) as well as from Senglea/Bormla (part of The Three Cities, across Grand Harbour) to take you across each of the harbours for a small fee. Trips are just 10 minutes.
- iSeeMalta Harbour ferry is a hop-on-hop-off type of ferry that takes you on a tour through both of Valletta’s harbours. You can get on/of at Valletta Waterfront, Esplora Interactive Science Centre at Kalkara (fun outing for kids!) and Sliema Ferries, from where you can hop on to other boat tours (taking you to other parts of Malta and Gozo).
- One of the Gozo fast ferry services can get you straight to Valletta from Gozo, in under 45 minutes.
Another option is to travel to Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa, one of The Three Cities), and take a short trip on a Maltese type of gondola (or Dgħajsa in Maltese).
A & S Water Taxis run a shuttle service that takes you across Grand Harbour from Victoria Gate, Valletta to Birgu waterfront (Three Cities).
