studjurban, a local architectural and urban design firm is pleased to invite the Kamra tal-Periti members to the “Architecture Alive presents Richard Murphy“ design talk that shall be held in the Gran Salon at the National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta, on Saturday 24th November 2018 at 7pm.
Architecture Alive is a series of stimulating design talks by world-renowned architects that is being hosted every two to three months in Malta. The project is hosted by local architectural and urban design firm studjurban and the Planning Authority with the support of the Kamra tal-Periti, Places:Design & Living magazine, and Marsovin. The event series was successfully launched on 6th October 2018 at the Maritime Museum with one of Austria’s foremost architects Peter Lorenz, who delivered a stimulating presentation entitled ‘Renaissance of Urbanity – the Responsibility of the Architect’.
Architect Richard Murphy, the invited speaker for the next design talk, is both a practising architect and lecturer. He is the director of Richard Murphy Architects Limited in Edinburgh, which he founded in 1991 and he is an authority on the works of the great twentieth century Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa. Richard Murphy Architects has won an unprecedented twenty-two RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Awards, has twice been shortlisted for the Stirling Prize and once for the RIBA Lubetkin Award. The practice’s work is wide ranging, including residential, educational and health buildings, offices and hotels, master-planning, galleries, theatres and two British Embassies.
The main objective of the Architecture Alive events is to keep the practice of architecture alive and flourishing through a regular exposure to great worldwide architecture and urban design. By providing insights on contemporary architectural matters and establishing a platform for further discussion, the series intends to foster learning opportunities, inspire audiences and provoke conversations. Invited architects will highlight their main achievements to date, discuss design challenges and share personal narratives, using their key projects as a visual basis.
The second Architecture Alive design talk shall be held in the Gran Salon at the National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta, on Saturday 24th November 2018.
