COVID-19 Impact on Periti

On Wednesday, 1st April 2020, the Kamra tal-Periti, the Chamber of Advocates, the Kunsill Notarili ta’ Malta, the Dental Association of Malta and the Malta Institute of Accountants presented a comprehensive set of proposals to the Honourable Silvio Schembri, Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business. These proposals were focused on two fronts, namely:

  • A National Strategy for all economic sectors and dealing with the short, medium and long term, with a view towards reducing redundancies, deferring certain fiscal payments, improving flexibility between employers and employees, and introducing the concept of burden sharing across the board; and
  • A more focused set of proposals for the professions, which will allow them to weather the storm and to be in a position to assist their clients in the medium term once the medical crisis stage is declared to be over.

The meeting was very positive and it is expected that discussions on the proposals will continue in the coming weeks. Further details will be communicated soon.

These proposals were supported by research on the respective sectors carried out by the five professional bodies through surveys rolled out in the past two weeks.

Survey Results

In order to bolster our proposals, each organisation is reaching out to its members to keep tabs on the situation as it develops. The results of the first two surveys is summarised below.
