The Kamra tal-Periti is proud to announce the winners of the second edition of the Sustainable Communities Design Competitions. The Design Competitions were organised by the KTP on behalf of the Ministry for Social Accommodation and the Housing Authority.
The Kamra has long called for the adoption of design competitions as the preferred form of procurement of architectural services. It notes with satisfaction that, following last year’s success, the budget allocation made available by the Ministry was increased allowing this year’s edition to encompass three sites allocated to as many NGOs, namely: YMCA, MGRM and Fondazzjoni Sebħ. Over 60 Periti registered to participate and 21 submissions were collectively received.
The Jury was co-chaired by Perit Dr Amber Wismayer and Dr Rachael Marie Scicluna. The panel comprised nine representatives of key stakeholders, including the Planning Authority and the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, both integral to the process of acquiring development permission.
The winners were announced last Thurdsay during a virtual Press Conference, which was addressed by the Minister for Social Accommodation, the CEO of the Housing Authority, the Chairperson of the Sustainable Communities Board and the President of the Kamra tal-Periti, Perit Andre Pizzuto. Perit Pizzuto praised the leadership shown by Minister Galdes and his team in promoting good quality architecture while concurrently addressing the needs of very specific vulnerable groups. He augured that this will encourage policy-makers and those in public service to recognise the benefits of design competitions for our communities and our built environment.
